The room
Eleven tables and six seats at the counter, where you can watch the peel. Nothing on the walls but the oven’s own light. No music louder than the room.
Eating here
Small on purpose.
A wood oven does one pizza a minute. Forty covers is what one oven and two people can feed properly in an evening, so that is the size of the room, and it has not grown in eleven years.
Tables are wood, unclothed, wiped between sittings. The chairs are the same Chiavari chairs the room opened with, re-caned twice. There is one high shelf of wine and it is the whole list.

Said at the table
“The Marinara has no cheese on it and I did not miss it once.”
Giulia, Tuesday regular
“Forty covers and you can hear the person across the table. That is rarer than the pizza.”
Marco, third visit
“Sixty seconds. I timed it. The crust still had the blister on it when it reached us.”
Anna, first visit
